IE11 keeps switching to IE7 mode

Internet Explorer first came out in 1994, but Microsoft still can’t make a browser without requiring every programmer on the internet to write custom websites to work around their bugs.  Windows 8/8.1 machines seem to frequently have this bug.

IF YOU’RE A DEVELOPER:

Download .and install NET 4.5, recompile your application and put it on the server

 IF YOU’RE A TYPICAL USER:

If you find IE11 keeps changing it’s compatibility to IE7, it’s probably because Microsoft has an outdated compatibility list..

Do the following:

  1. Click the gear/cog in the upper right corner
  2. Click on Compatibility View Settings
  3. Uncheck all checkboxes
  4. If your site is in the compatibility list — remove it
  5. Close all browsers
  6. Reboot your computer

If this doesn’t work, it probably means your history is keeping the compatibility mode:

  1. Click the gear/cog in the upper right corner
  2. Click on Internet Options
  3. Click on the Advanced Tab
  4. Click on Reset
  5. Put a  check on checkbox Delete Personal Settings — WARNING:  You’ll lose your saved passwords
  6. Close all browsers
  7. Reboot your computer

If this doesn’t work, “re-install” IE11

  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Click on Uninstall a program
  3. In the left pane, click on Turn Windows features on or off
  4. Uncheck Internet Explorer 11
  5. Click OK
  6. Reboot
  7. Do steps 1 through 3
  8. Check Internet Explorer 11
  9. Click OK
  10. Reboot
